If you haven’t yet heard about SAAC, you need to. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is an organization established by the National Collegiate Athletic Association that focuses on involving student athletes in community service projects and improving their campus.
“We do everything,” says Brittany Butcher, president of SAAC at S.U. “Our goal is to improve everything through the athletes perspective. Giving the option through administration to help out our athletes and working to improve them.”
This past weekend, the men’s and women’s basketball teams played a doubleheader where children from local elementary schools were recognized for their academic success and good behavior by serving as ball boys and girls for the games. Alumni of the men’s and women’s basketball teams were there as well, in support of the program.
On Jan. 26, SAAC, along with the SGA and the Buzzin’ Dozen Pep Band, will be holding the 2nd annual Winter Wipeout. The men’s and women’s basketball teams will be playing another doubleheader that afternoon, starting at 2 p.m. Students are invited to pre-game for the event with food and face paint at 1 p.m. The first 500 fans to arrive will receive free rally towels. “It’s going to be a lot of fun,” says Butcher. “There will be plenty of handouts after the game!”
