When the summer months fade away and school is on everyone’s minds fall athletes are only thinking one thing. Let the season begin! This is no different for the men’s soccer program, which is entering their second season in the ODAC conference.

Coming off of a 3-13-2 season, the men’s soccer program is looking to improve their record

“We are in the third year of a five year process,” said Head Coach Corbin Sutton. Since Sutton’s arrival at Shenandoah University the development of the men’s program has gotten better each season.

“With new talent that we have received this 2012 fall season and this year’s recruiting class has added more depth at each position.” Sutton also has plans to mix up the starting lineup. “The best on the team will play. No matter what class, freshman through senior.”

With one ODAC win last season Sutton states that the team is working hard to improve upon that. “This season we have gathered more video on our conference teams. As well as the style of play that we will be facing.”

Not only will the men’s soccer program have video on their opponents but on themselves as well.  Video review is used at many levels of play from high school to the professionals. Game footage helps coaches to determine the strengths and weaknesses and form a game plan. The men’s program will be looking for certain themes in their own game. Video analysis is helpful in improving the mechanics of an individual player as well. “Video doesn’t lie,” said Sutton. “We will see our strengths and weaknesses, this will bring the team together.”

The Hornets soccer program has had a change in personality this year, as well. “With this being the second recruiting class I have seen an attitude change in our team.” Sutton said that he has seen his sophomore class step up and take all 12 recruited freshman under their wings to show them the ropes.

“This year we will be more exciting to watch, with the talent we have.” It’s important to Sutton and those on the team that people come out and watch the games. “When the guys see students, faculty and administration it tells them that they are supported by the S.U. Community.”
