The infamous Apple Blossom Festival is upon us with in this week. Most of you believe that this is the last time before finals to go out with a bang and attempt to relax before finals week begins.
In reality, this festival is more than just drinking and seeing who can shotgun beer the fastest before noon. For those of you who are new to the Winchester area, you are in for treat, you may have heard the numerous rumors about this festival, and I hope you are prepared. And for those who have been around for a while, welcome back and I hope you remember your previous bloom.
During the weekend of The Bloom, you will get to experience a weekend of festivities and things to look for that you may not have noticed about Apple Blossom.
For instance, did you notice that Apple Blossom is a 10-day celebration? Technically this festival began Apr. 25. Which means you are already behind in celebrating The Bloom. There are ongoing events through the entire week until Sunday, May 4.
To start off your Apple Blossom, make sure you take a glance at all the events that you didn’t know were there. There is the Thursday Night Fever Disco Dance Party, hosted by Harley Davidson. Oh you didn’t know that there was a disco? You’re in luck! Get your funky gear and get ready to get down at 8 p.m. at the Sprint Tent at 1014 Amherst St. You will have to pay to get in, so don’t think that it’s free. But it is only $25 to get groovy.
There is even a 10K for those of you who are interested in getting a good workout in before consuming some very fattening food and beverages. On Saturday, May 3 at 8:30 a.m., there is a race that takes you all around the downtown and Winchester area.
However, if you would rather have a breakfast and meet some fun celebrities rather than run, then a sports breakfast may be a better fit for you. At Winchester Moose Lodge, 215 E Cork Street, there is a sports breakfast at 8:00 a.m. to suffice your need to possibly meet some cool people. Like Bill Walton perhaps?
The Old Town Downtown is packed with parades, midway and constant traffic. So one way of transportation for your safety is calling a cab. You may not know this, but they love this time of the year. There are plenty of cab services in the area to provide a safe ride for your fun night, however over Apple Blossom is a more hectic time; most cabs will raise their fee’s for your ride during this celebration.
That being said, do not drink and drive during the festival time. Did you know that once you are arrested for drinking over the weekend, that you will be put into the drunk tank and held there till Monday morning? So for those of you who have an early final that Monday morning, you are going to miss it. So just be smart in whatever you may do during the celebration.
There is not too much about Apple Blossom that most people do not already know but here are a few events that are forgotten by most. For more information and to find out about more events, check out the Apple Blossom website at http://www.thebloom.com. Have a safe and fun Apple Blossom everyone!
