UpStream Radio Shows Coming Soon

Michael Newlin will be airing a show on Tuesday nights at seven. The phrase “by the students for the students” fits Newlin’s show to the T. Newlin stated, “My goal is to play music for the students. I want to know which artists they like and which they don’t. If we don’t have it, I want to get it. I can’t please everyone, but I’d like to try. It’s your radio station.” So if you’ve got something you want to hear Newlin’s show is the one for you. Send him a request at mnewlin14@su.edu.

Manny Vasquez is going to have a couple shows on the station. The first show will be airing Mondays and Wednesdays 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. Vasquez wants to take students on a trip back in time to a more psychedelic era with mostly 60s rock. Sticking with the vintage theme Wednesday nights will be all vinyl where he plays old records. Vasquez’s second show will be more on the ghoulish side with readings of horror/sci fi themed short stories and poems. Vasquez also wants students to be involved with his shows, he encourages them to send in their own short stories or poems to be read on air. If you are interested contact Manny Vasquez at mvasquez12@su.edu.

Joachim Schirmacher will also be producing a show. Schirmacher’s show is going to take the classical route with playing mostly jazz. He explained to me, “It’s the world that I’ve known my whole life and I just have this wonderful appreciation for that particular type of music.” He wants to open up students horizons to artists that they have never heard of before.
