Music You Should Be Listening To!

By Tessa Climer

There is never a dull moment in the music world, and in the past few weeks, we have been given several new albums and release dates. What am I supposed to do with a One Direction AND Justin Bieber album coming out on the same day? (Nov. 13 if my fellow boy band lovers were wondering) But in more important news, there have been several new upcoming artists making their chart debuts.

Halsey, an alternative indie pop pixie, has been on the Billboard charts for weeks with her debut album “Badlands.” The second you put it on, you won’t be able to stop. She lets you inside the dark side of her universe with haunting lyrics and the beautiful sound crafted around them.

Lately, Bryson Tiller has been bumping through my speakers, and his album; “T R A P S O U L” will give you a Drake/Travis Scott kind of vibe. And while we’re on the subject of Drake…”Hotline Bling” has been in the top five for the past month. The music video dropped Oct. 19 only restarting the cycle of addiction. If you’re in need of a laugh, I highly suggest going through the Vines and/or GIFs circling from this video.

Anyway, back to the subject of music, Adele wowed us all with her new single “Hello” which will also be on her…wait for it…. upcoming album, “25” (internally screaming for days!). Adele has left us without her amazing voice for quite some time now, so it’s safe to say her fans and just about everyone ever is excited for some new heartfelt ballads.

Years & Years, another British act that joins Adele on the charts, have had quite a few singles in the UK that climbed their way to the top. The group consists of dance beats and smooth vocals. “King” is one of those songs you hear at the club that takes you from your barstool to the dance floor. Each song has the same vibe which makes the album (“Communion”) flow extremely well, but they are all different enough that you don’t get bored.

Last, but not least, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez both dropped albums this month. Both are about self-love and feeling confident with who you are despite what others think or the struggles you’ve gone through. In the “Revival” album, Gomez gives us a look into her spiritual side with songs like “Nobody” and “Rise” while Demi Lovato is all about living your life for you. Her first single from the album, “Confident” really sparks a ‘girl power’ feel.

If you’d like to listen to the songs I mentioned, go check out our Spotify playlists. Let us know on Twitter (@thedoahsu) if there’s certain a certain artist you’d like us to check out!
