It seems more Shenandoah University students are interested in protesting the incoming presidential administration than celebrating it.

Plenty of seats are left on a coach bus leaving from Brandt Student Center Friday morning at 7 a.m. for the inaugural, but there are no seats left on another bus leaving Saturday for the Women’s March on Washington.

The march is described by the University event page as being for “all women and feminist others…to show solidarity and support for the safety and health of women across the United States.”

The University office of Student Engagement and the President’s Office are sponsoring the buses to the historical events in Washington D.C.

The buses are free for all students, staff, and faculty, and there is still time to sign up for the bus bound for the inaugural. Those interested should contact Doug Stump at jstump14@su.edu.

The bus headed to the inaugural leaves campus Friday, Jan. 20 at 7 a.m. for the noon swearing-in ceremony on the East Front of the Capitol.

Students will be able to view the parade from the National Mall on large screens.

Those interested in putting their names on the waiting list for the women’s march should contact Maggie McCampbell Lien at mmccampb@su.edu.

The bus bound for the march leaves at 7 a.m. for the 10 a.m. rally.

A similar march, “for those that will be unable to travel to Washington D.C.,” is being hosted locally in downtown Winchester on Saturday, according to the Action Network event page created by organizer Kerry Focer Stavely. Lineup will begin at The Hideaway Cafe at 2:30 p.m., with the march to begin at 3 p.m.

Those attending the events should dress for rainy weather and temperatures in the mid-to-high 40s on Friday, and an overcast with temperatures in the high 40s to low 50s on Saturday. A drop to the mid-30s is also possible for the march.
