Baseball opens season with wins

Shenandoah University baseball swept this weekend, going 3-0 against the Case Western Reserve Spartans.

The Hornets were undefeated going into this weekend. They stayed undefeated beating the Spartans in all three games they played this weekend.

On Saturday, the Hornets won 13-6. The Hornets took the lead in the first with back-to-back home runs. After that the Hornets continued to lead. Shenandoah scored seven runs in the seventh inning to put the game far out of reach.

Junior Colin Morse received his first win as he pitched six innings. Morse allowed just six hits.

On Sunday, the Hornets played a doubleheader and won both games.

The Hornets’ pitching was excellent as they only allowed a combined seven runs in the two games. Sophomore Zach Teeple pitched the first game. Teeple had four strikeouts and gave up six hits in a 12-6 win. This was Teeple’s second win this season.

The Hornets had a total of 17 hits in their first game. Jake Loew had the only home run of the game, which is his third this season. He also had a game leading four RBI`s.

Freshman Gerard DePhillips pitched the second game. DePhillips pitched eight innings. He held the Spartans scoreless until the sixth inning. He allowed just one run the entire game. This is also DePhillips’ second win this season.

Sophomore Luke Nussman had a home run in the second game.

The Hornets will have another home game Wednesday against Elizabethtown.
