Top 10 Fall Fashion Staples

By Elise O’Neill-Eckman

Say goodbye to the sweet, sunny memories of summer because it’s fall y’all!

Winchester is an amazing place to spend the autumn months. Thousands of people from D.C. and across the country will visit our little neck of the woods for some good old fashioned leaf-peeping. Lucky for you, you don’t have to travel far for awesome views and instagram-worthy activities.

So, with all these photos you’re bound to be taking while picking out pumpkins, eating apple cider doughnuts, hiking, picking apples, going to haunted houses, and solving corn mazes, you are going to need the perfect outfit.

Here are ten fall fashion staples for living in Winchester, VA.

1. Cable Knit Sweater

Classic, timeless, and makes it seem like you put in a ton of effort when you really just threw on a sweater. I suggest getting cable knit sweaters in neutral colors like cream, black, grey, or camel for optimal wear and emphasizing the classic look.

2. Plaid Flannel Shirt

Perfect for layering and so versatile! Throw a sweater on top for a preppier look, layer on top of your favorite tee shirt, or just wear it on its own.

3. Boots

Riding boots, Bean boots, booties, rain boots, am I missing one? Every type of boot deserves love and your feet this fall. Boots are perfect for mucking around in pumpkin patches and scoping out the perfect apple in the orchard.

4. Well-Fitting Jeans

Need I say more? Well-fitting jeans are so important with all the layering and oversized tops we tend to wear in the fall. Don’t neglect the booty! You can still show it off even when it gets colder.

5. Suede Skirt

Here’s a trendier option for autumn. A suede skirt is perfect for warmer fall days. Tuck a simple sweater into it, slip on some cute patterned tights, and your favorite boots.

6. Raincoat

Winchester is notoriously rainy in the fall and it is hard to push yourself out of bed and into the damp cold weather. I suggest getting a brightly colored raincoat to help brighten up your day. Yellow is always cute and classic option, but don’t be afraid to go outside the box. Firetruck red, hot pink, kelly green, and minty blue are other fun options.

7. Vest

Perfect for warmer autumn days when you still need to keep your core warm, but don’t want to lug around a jacket. Sherpa vests and puffy vests are very trendy for 2018.

8. Oversized sweater

The go-to, perfect fall top. It flawlessly hides all the pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice lattes, and pumpkin muffins that you’re bound to stress eat around midterms.

9. Trendy jacket

Denim, leather, or military jackets are lightweight and great for layering. This fall, embroidery is a huge trend. An embroidered jacket might be an awesome way to work this style into your wardrobe.

10. Statement neck pieces

Statement necklaces are the ultimate fall accessory for the Southern prepster, but this fall a new neck statement piece is stealing the spotlight: the neckerchief. Popular when our grandmothers were our age, the little neck scarf has made its return and I am here for it. Pair it with a crewneck sweater and you will look like you’re straight out of an Audrey Hepburn movie. What’s not to love?
