This past Saturday, Oct. 6, at 12 P.M., the university unveiled a new statue at the James R. Wilkins Jr. Athletics and Events Center (WAEC).
The unveiling ceremony lasted around 30 minutes and featured several speakers, including our President Tracy Fitzsimmons, James R. “Jimmy” Wilkins Jr., and James A. “Jim” Davis.
Ashley Warren, President of the Alumni Association, called thi statue “the crown jewel of the James R. Wilkins Jr. Athletics and Events Center”.
Now, what is this statue of?
Our mascot Buzzy, of course!
This statue was made possible by a donation by the James R. Wilkins Charitable Trust. It stands over ten feet tall and ten feet wide, and weighs one ton.
The statue was made using a 3D printer by a company in Sioux Falls, South Dakota called “BronzeAge Art Casting”. It includes 70 total printed pieces built into a stainless steel frame.
President Tracy Fitzsimmons told the crowd gathered at the WAEC, that the statue is dedicated to both Jim and Janet Davis “for all that they did to create the Shenandoah University foundation that we all know and love today”.
Be sure to stop by and see our new Bronze Buzzy watching over the Shentel Stadium!
