Two Moons, One Month

Morgan Letizia

WINCHESTER, VIRGINIA- October is known as the month when “spooky season” starts, however there is something extra spooky. For the first time since January 2018, there will be two full moons in one month.

The first full moon of the month fell on October 2nd and was the “Harvest Moon”. This moon gets its name from not only being the first full moon of the autumn season, but also because it allows farmers to work late into the night by the moonlight. The Harvest moon also happened to be in Aries, which may explain any combative and fiery energy you may have experienced at the beginning of the month.

The second full moon of the year falls on the most appropriate day, Halloween! The full moon falling on October, 31st is called the “Blue Moon”  and falls under the sign Taurus. This upcoming full moon is predicted to cause an increase in the need for reassurance and power. Although it is advised that this is not a good time to make big decisions and any choice being made should be made with extreme caution. Unfortunately, the moon does not turn blue and is only the name for the second full moon in a two moon month.

Even if the full moon gives you the creeps, it’s worth acknowledging this double moon month as it won’t happen again until August 2023. Use this upcoming full moon to plan out some goals you want to accomplish and make some time to take care of yourself. In the meantime, stay safe and keep an eye out for werewolves.
