Shenandoah Baseball is looking forward to a successful season as they head toward their first game. The Hornets won the ODAC Championship last season, but they still fell short of their goal. Gavin Horning, a senior on the team and co-captain, said their goal for this season “is the same as any other year. Win the last game.” This goal has been the focus of the baseball program’s busy preseason. They have spent many practices working in inter-squads and simulating many different in-game scenarios to help prepare them for the first game of the season.

The team’s senior shortstop and captain, Frankie Ritter, said they embraced a new approach this offseason by holding a challenge month. The goal of the challenge month was to encourage team members to push each other in different ways that weren’t baseball related. “This was a great way for us to connect on a personal level and learn about each other’s strengths and weaknesses,” Ritter said. Gavin and his fellow captains can agree that the bond on the team is extremely tight, and the brotherhood they have formed is a major contributing factor to the team’s success season after season. It’s safe to say that the athletes in this program will bring their energy and enthusiasm throughout the 40-game season, and this will be a huge motivator as they work through big wins and close games. Co-captain and pitcher Reilly Owen, who’s a senior on the team, reminisced on his favorite memory. “My favorite memory from last season was pitching a complete game shutout in the ODAC Championship and going 13-0 against a tough opponent.” The Shenandoah Baseball team looks forward to bringing home another ODAC Championship this season and more! They have been working hard during the pre-season, and they show a lot of determination to be a successful team. Ryan Clawson, a third baseman on the team, said he’s looking forward to the memories he’s going to make with his fellow teammates during his final season with the Hornets. “We’re going to be playing some of the best division 3 baseball teams in the country, and our goal is to prove to them we’re the best,” said Clawson.  There’s no doubt their strong bond and hard work will lead them to achieve all their goals for this season. The Hornets open up their season on February 11th on Kevin Anderson Field at Bridgeforth stadium against Widener at noon. Come out and support your Hornet Baseball team!
