Look Who I Ran Into: Part 9

By Demitri Matenopoulos

Welcome all, my name is Demitri Matenopoulos, a senior Media and Communication major here at Shenandoah University. I hope you’ll join me as I walk around campus this semester getting to know some familiar and not-so-familiar faces and sharing what I learn about my new friends in a weekly column in The Buzz I like to call Look Who I Ran Into. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I have!

Look Who I Ran Into at Vickers Communications Center today. Meet Chase Lyerly. He is a sophomore Film Production major from Fairfax, Virginia. He hopes to become a cinematographer following college!

Some of his favorite things to do during his free time are hanging out with friends, fishing, playing video games, camping, and doing mixed martial arts. His favorite hobby is playing with cameras and learning new techniques and tricks to help his cinematography.

One person who inspires him is Khabib Nurmagomedov who is a former professional mixed martial artist and longest-reigning Lightweight Champion in the UFC. His favorite fast food chain is Cookout. He thinks the ’70s is the best decade of music. His favorite home-cooked meal is his grandma’s spaghetti. His first job was helping file things for the accounting department of Douglas Corey and Associates. The thing he loves most about going to Shenandoah is how much there is to do outdoors.

Get out there and meet someone new every day! You never know what you’ll find out about people you think you know.

This is unfortunately the last edition of my weekly column Look Who I Ran Into. Thanks for joining me on this 9-week journey of getting to know students from all around Shenandoah University. I have had such a great time meeting new people and learning more about those that I already knew. I hope my weekly column inspires others to step outside of their comfort zones and talk to someone new every day. You truly never know who’s behind a face until you talk to them!
