Winchester welcomes fall with food and beer

It’s finally that time of the year again where warm colors are everywhere, crunchy leaves cover the ground, and pumpkin-flavored drinks and food are popular. Like a lot of you, fall is my favorite time of the year. Everything about it is just perfect.

The best way to embrace all the fall aspects is to be outside having a great time with your favorite people. There are a couple upcoming events that will give you that opportunity.

On Sunday, Oct. 13, “Rally in the Alley” is being held on Indian Alley, just off the Old Town Walking Mall. Local bands will be playing music from noon to 6 p.m. While you’re listening to some music, make sure you try out the food provided by 10 local restaurants. This event is free to attend but you will have to pay for food and drinks. Also for those of you who are 21 or older, there will be craft beers you can sip on while enjoying the music and food. Everything at this event has been provided by local businesses.

To continue the celebration of fall, there’s the Octobeer Fest. You have probably heard of Oktoberfest, right? This is similar, but it’s shortened to two days instead of the usual 16. The event will take place on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18-19. If you are into German beers, this is the event for you. Different bands will be playing on both days, so do your best not to miss out on any of them.

Admission for the event is $5 just for normal entry, and the advance package will cost $10.  The advance package covers the entry for the event, four beer or wine tastings and a tasting glass. Tastings will otherwise cost up to $4 per glass of wine or beer. For some extra fun, there will also be some polka dancing.

Both events will be great fun. Embrace this fall weather and get outside. It will be worth it, this perfect weather will not last forever.
